Founded in Canterbury in 1984, Ryman has been pioneering retirement living in New Zealand for more than 35 years. Ryman has now become one of New Zealand’s largest listed companies. The company owns and operates 42 retirement villages in New Zealand and Australia which are home to more than 12,500 residents and the company employs 6,100 staff. Three decades on, Ryman’s winning ethos hasn’t changed. “Everything we do must be good enough for Mum, or Dad.”

THE CHALLENGE:

The challenge for Ryman began with the 2014 Food Act – the game changer. Like all food operators they were required to register a food control plan and make it work across the business. As a large multi-site organisation there were numerous challenges to doing this. The first was to train kitchen staff to work with their new Food Control Plan and to complete paper records. Due to the volume and time taken to collate completed records it was impossible for management to be alerted quickly to compliance and operational issues which could impact food safety. This increased the risk of an incident resulting in health issues and brand damage. After four years of managing food safety on paper Ryman were ready for a solution which could grow with their business. What was required was an integrated food safety system that would give real time visibility and full traceability across their entire business.

THE SOLUTION:

Ryman chose Safe Food Pro for its ‘out of the box’ solution and it’s ease of use. Safe Food Pro immediately gave Ryman oversight across the group. Designed specifically for food safety, Safe Food Pro improved staff engagement with the Ryman food control plan and was simple to roll-out across the group.
